On May 1st, Maher explored the lost history of the militant guild of rural tailors with students in the Masters of Fashion Communication program at Central Saint Martins in London. Organized by course director Roger Tredre, discussion addressed what the story might mean at a time when long held values such as mystery, memory, craftsmanship, cultural authenticity, originality, and frameworks for cultivating individual identity itself are under perceived threat from the byte-sizing of storytelling, the flattening effect of influencer culture, AI’s impact on authorship and the fracturing of self within the metaverse.
